Dress Etiquette & Regulations

NLMA is somewhat like a private school providing a different type of education for your child and as such we pride ourselves on being respectful of tradition and are proud to wear the traditional karate do-gi.

We expect all students to wear the full karate uniform to every class. Students are expected to be well presented and attired properly. Sensei will give permission to wear your NLMA singlet or training shirt on very hot days so wear your gi and bring your other shirt.

The obi or karate belt must always be worn to every class. Students cannot receive attitude stripes and technical stripes without a belt. The belt must be worn for the entire class and be tied correctly. The karate do-gi must also be treated with respect, it should never be thrown around or disregarded. The obi must never be dropped or not placed away properly. You have earned this grade so you should be respect it..

In very hot weather, students may wear the NLMA red training shirt or singlet. No other shirt is

acceptable.
